Users of Statistical data have not participated enough in the production of data

In collaboration with the United Nations Statistical Division (UNSD), the Central Statistical Agency (CSA) conducted a workshop between May 21 to 24/2019 at Ellily International Hotel to know the current and future needs of data.

The workshop mainly aims to develop a strategy on the engagement of Data users and producers and as a result the strategy helps to modernize the production of quality data and to satisfy the needs of National Statistical Systems (NSS).

Aberash Tariku, Deputy Director General National Statistical System Coordination and Operation, mentioned that, at the workshop, the involvement of users is inadequate in the production of data, this adversely affects the quality of data produced. For this the workshop is vital to come together with users to develop a strategy. This strategy helps for the future to enable the CSA up to the standard.

In the workshop both data producers and users discussed on the contents of “User-Producer Engagement Strategy and valuable inputs are collected. Sectors such as the Ministry of Education, Ministry of Health, Ministry of Agriculture, Research Institute, Plan Commission, Public Health Institute, UNFPA, CSA, Media houses, and other sectors are involved in the workshop to make inclusive the content of the strategy of User-Producer Engagement. In his closing remark, the Director General of CSA, Biratu Yigezu, mentioned that, further the strategy of User-Producer Engagement will include other inputs and endorsed for implementation; and he believed that the strategy then helps the CSA and users to work together for a better production of data.
